HARMONY: AND THE BENIGN VISION

SINDH COURIER

Be it a man or a society, so long its features are in harmony, it belongs to angels. But the moment the features are twisted, they start looking like demons.

Dr. Jernail S. Anand

We are a part of the diurnal course of nature. According to our situation, things happen by themselves. Right or wrong, depends on the position we have taken. The objects of nature too have a slant of their own. Each works at its designated speed, and in a direction which best suits other elements of nature. It is an orchestrated flow, a harmony, which we can discover if we possess a keen eye.

When we disturb the flow of life, it gives rise to discordance. If we look around, you can see people fighting, men in disarray. Families at logger heads. Fights. Kidnappings. Killings. This is a sad society. Its harmony has been broken intentionally. There are some people who are not visible, who are directing this melodrama. They know, if you create scarcity, you will create fighters. If you create plenty, you will create fight masters.  Both the situations are averse to human dignity and the idea of harmony and peace.

Of Then and Now

If we look at life 50 years ago, we shall feel that time was moving at a very slow pace. People were engaged in their designated professions, each dependent on the other. It was a world which was inter-dependent, and the people lived in villages which had a great fellow feeling among the dwellers.

If we look at a dwelling fifty years back, it had a ceiling made of wooden logs, and mud plaster. In the front yard, there was a tree, under whose shade, was tied a cow or a goat. This harmonious bonding with nature was broken by those who wanted quick success. The focus was shifted from peace and harmony to wealth and prosperity. All those who enjoyed those slow moving times are now lying securely in the arms of mother earth.

The Different Story

Now, the story is entirely different. Try to find one person among ten thousand who believes in morality, whose dream is not riches, who wants a peaceful death. Not one. That is why, from these very ranks have grown political and religious leaders of average dimensions. Leaders are people who represent the general flow of thought in the society. Don’t beat at your head if you find all commitment to values, ideals missing from the timeline of these leaders, and their nascent followers.

Benign Vision

Today, we find ourselves in a jungle of opportunity. The growth that we find in our society and the civilization as a whole is wild growth. It was not done under some benign vision which takes care of the poorer pockets of society. Those at the helm are insensitive souls for whom nothing but power matters, and people have no sanctity in their eyes.

The wheel of civilization is not moving smoothly. There are jerks and ups and downs. One feels things might go out of control anytime

There is an upsurge of crime in the world society. The essential reason for this is: focus on individual freedom, and lack of moral scruples. A twisted thought process has disshaped the taste of the entire society. By and by, those who believed in goodness are retiring from life, and their place is taken up by people who have nothing to do with scruples. The result of this change is visible in our social set up. In the family, if the father believes in indecent deals in business, can he teach any moral sense to his sons and daughters? Schools still teach the young students ‘Honesty is the best policy’, but at home they find their parents working day and night to rob John to pay Paul. It is a terrible society whose features have twisted. Be it a man or a society, so long its features are in harmony, it belongs to angels. But the moment the features are twisted, they start looking like demons.

It is not that we people do not like religious teachings. There are people who try to sprinkle the essence of goodness. Remember the TV Serial Ramayana. When Devils saw this serial, they ran to Satan and asked him what can now be done? Men will become good and they had no chance in this world. Satan kept sitting unmoved, smiled and said: “You are kids. When will you grow up? Don’t you see before and after the episodes, they scatter so much of advertisements. I have heard some people. Women only remember the sweet music of the ads. Nobody remembers what is said in the serial.’ So, this is the way we treat our gods and our religion. There is no dearth of religious places. Only we lack ‘sharadha’ dedication to godliness, which is missing.

We want a better society with higher parameters. We want people to aspire for happiness and live in harmony. But these are virtues which have been declared POs. Nobody is officially allowed to cultivate any such quality. Devils want fist fighting between couples, and between people who believe in gods, and those who doubt them. The control of men has now been shifted to the Devil and they report to them now. People are joining their heads together how to bring down the entire world, and keep their head above.

We want a better society with higher parameters. We want people to aspire for happiness and live in harmony

The wheel of civilization is not moving smoothly. There are jerks and ups and downs. One feels things might go out of control anytime. The chaos we tried or order has disordered us. The flowing waters have thrown aside all that was good in society. The right minded people are stranded like banks, and waters are overflowing and jumping around.

Essentially, there is no fear of retribution. In the past, people feared gods. They feared hell. They had time to read scriptures from which they gleaned a world view. To take care of parents, help the needy. Now, who reads scriptures in the presence of Google? And Google has no moral stand. It is amoral. The generation that has come up now, the Google Gen is also moral-safe. Young men have come up with no clear map of their future, no job security, only the certainty of a ‘find me out’ job scene. Anyone can fit anything type of system. Tentativity in educational training has finally lost the case of humanity.
