The 5th World Poetry Conference kicked off yesterday with the theme: Poetry: the last hope of Mankind.  The event was organized by Aazaad Foundation [Regd] and International Academy of Ethics. According to Dr. Jernail S. Anand, Chairman of the WPC , the Inaugural Function followed by book launch and International Poets Conclave proved to be a grand success. Dr. Parneet Jaggi, the talent host, introduced the theme of the WPC, followed by an Inaugural and Welcome address by Dr. Anand. He thanked the Serbian Writers Association for the International Award in Creativity: The Charter of Morava and also, for engraving his name on the Poet’s Rock.

The event kicked off with a speech by Dr. Basudeb Chakraborti, the Chairman of the Org. Committee, followed by address and poetry rendering by the Chief Guest, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, a Member Parliament and Poet from Ghana. Dr. Kalpana Purohit, the sagacious and talent academician from Jai Narain University, Jaipur, delivered the Keynote Address which re-lived great poetry and pointed out how poetry is the mainstay of human emotions. Dr. Maja Herman Sekulic, the Guest of Honour, apart from congratulating Dr. Anand on his Serian Award, rendered a poem ‘Love is All We Need’.   There was an interval in which the book launch session was held. Five books of Dr. Anand and a work of Poetry by Dr. Parneet Jaggi had their world premier.

[The Best Poetry of Dr. Jernail Anand: An Offering in Translation, The Imperfect Artist, The Silt of Sin, Prometheous Rebound and The Island of Limited Joy. Dr. Parneet Jaggi’s work of poetry ‘The Sun in the Palm’]

The World Premier was followed by the International Poetry Conclave in which four Guests of Honour, Sh. Bhagirath Choudhary, Dr. Lalit Mohan Sharma, Sh. Arindam Roy and Dr. Molly Joseph participated with their superb poetry. The Conclave had stalwarts of poetry from different countries: Rawle Iam James [Canada], Zlatan Demirovic [US], Ed Cordevilla [Phillipines], Dr. Zamia Poran Zion [Israel], Daniel Rivach [Oxford] Sheshana Vega [Israel] Eva Petropolou Lainou [Greece] Millica Lilic [Serbia] and Sabyasachi Nazrul [Bangladesh].

Dr Anand announced that on 19th Nov, we have 33 poets to participate in the three poetry sessions chaired by Dr. Mirzana Pasic Koderic, Bosnia Hersegovina, Sh. Ashok K. Bhargava and Dr. Rama Krishna Perugu. Tomorrow’s session will be dedicated to great poet Dr.Pedapudi Rama Rao. In the 3rd phase, on 26th Nov. we have listed 40 poets.

The Chairpersons of the three sessions are: Sh. Vinod Khanna, Sh. Mukul Kumar IRTS and Ibrahim Honjo [Canada].  Dr. Anand also complimented the hosts of these sessions. On 19th, the 1st session will be hosted by Dr. Sarita Sharma and Dr Shobha Sharma, the 2nd session by Meenakshi Goswami and the 3rd session by Dr. Sandhya Rao K. On 26th, the 1st session will be hosted by gifted poet Harinder Cheema, 2nd session by Dr. Sushmindarjeet Kaur and 3rd session by Dr. Shalini Yadav. Our close associates Dr. Sheela Banu and Dr.Tamali Neogi have  offered to help in the conduct of these sessions.

During the Conference, Dr. Pedapudi Rama Rao received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Literature. Other poets who were felicitated with Award certificates were: Eva Petropolou Lainou [Greece] for her extraordinary work in dissemination of literature and building cultural and emotional bridges to bring the nations together, Rawle Iam James [Canada] who has made great efforts towards shaping the ideas of the Academy of Ethics, Agron Shele, for heading the world movement of Poetry with his portal Galaktika Poetika, and Sh. Brij Bhushan Goyal, General Secretary of Alumni Association, SCD Govt College, for establishing an Alumni Library in the College, and setting an example for others to follow.

Poetry has a direct connect with the social milieu. And it is a political document. It was no surprise there was hardly any poet which did not touch the war consciousness of our times. The Israeli poets brought out the deadly impact of war in graphic details. It was felt that when we are in pain, we cry. And poetry is that cry which lifts our voice to gods.

The first session of the WPC was intelligently curated by Professor Parneet Jaggi. Prof. Randhir Gautam was the host.  Dr. Manminder Singh Anand and Dr.Mukesh Grover helped in the background.

The event succeeded in bringing people from different cultures and climates together on a common platform, and assert its faith in the theme of the WPC: That Poetry is the Last Hope of Mankind.

PANEL DISCUSSION ON

THE ETHICAL BLANK: FAULT LINES OF MODERN CIVILIZATION

Moderated by Dr Manju Chouhan, Professor of English. Chandigarh University Punjab

The Panelists were Dr. Swaraj Raj, former Head and Faculty Dean, Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, Dr. Kul Bushan Razdan Razdan former Head,Dept. of English, University of Jammu [J&K] and Raja Puniani, a poet, media artist and versatile genius from Siliguri.

Dr. Swaraj Raj dwelt on the fact that the present world history was marked by several instances where ethics have found their way into international and national affairs. And he also emphasised that different regional bodies have their individual ethical systems. He however pointed out that the universal ethics to which all could adhere are lacking in this divided world.

Dr Kul Bushan Razdan Razdan ‘s take was the absolute lack of compunction and ethical values in medical and even education fields. He was very critical of the presently going on war between Israel and Hamas. Quoting from the classics and celebrated texts, he emphasised that Hamlet’s words To be or Not to be are the crux of ethical values, which however are missing in the present world.

Raja Puniani dwelt on a broad base of events and brought home the idea that humanity needs to focus back on ethics, or the world stands to lose its very legitimacy.

Dr. Maja Herman Sekulic the Vice-President of the IAE, welcomed all the panelists, and dwelt on the agenda of the IAE and the need for condemning the war that has erupted. She hoped the discussion would lead to better understanding of our situation.

Dr. Jernail S Aanand, who presided over the Panel discussion and concluded it, remarked that the ethical blank has brought has back to the animal world where ethics have no relevance. The idea of ethics is entirely a human coinage, and if we are losing this baggage of being human, we are sinking back into animalism. He stressed the need to enkindle love for ethics among the youth and exhorted teachers and parents who can usher in the necessary change in the thinking patterns of society.

From the audience, Sh. Bhagirath Choudhary, Dr. Lalit Mohan Sharma, Sh. Rawle Iam James and Sh. Vinod Khanna expressed their concise views on the subject, thus enriching the discussion with their seasoned views.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Parneet Jaggi , Prof of English, Dr BR Ambedkar Govt PG College, Sri Ganganagar. Convener.

DR DESH BIR SHARMA DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR OF IAE WRITES ON ETHICS

Love and anger are common traits of behaviour among man and animals. However, it is only man who is endowed with the faculty of assessing what is worth doing and what is not. If he fails to exercise this faculty for his own balanced existence in the system called society and creation, in general, he is likely to lose for himself the title of being a whole human being. Doing good, appreciating virtue, feeling bad when things happen in the negative direction, gearing oneself to action to remedy a worsening situation are the attributes we expect every sensible member of society to display. However, this cannot and doesn’t really happen because man can not be made to fit into to hardbound jacket, nor monitored to a formula since human stuff is simply plastic and variable. That results in clashes, wars, exploitation, craft, graft, corruption, cheating, crime, self-aggrandizement, class hatred, swindling and innumerable aberrations of human behaviour leading to a chaotic scenario demanding the saner voices to set about doing something to mend the situation through creation of a mental environment that can alleviate the misery of our race in general. The more people come together out of genuine concern in this connection, the better it would be for us all inhabiting this earth.

A Report.

The Panel Discussion held on 10th September by International Academy of Ethics on Decline of Educational Institutions and its impact on the Society was Chaired by Dr Jernail S Aanand who spoke on the increasing “criminalization” in society that stems from decadent, corrosive existing educational structure.

Dr. Maja Herman Sekulic Vice President IAE, highlighted how the opening of digital galaxy and increased use of AI stifled the essentially humane ethical virtues in students.

Professor Radhakant Barik, IIPA, Delhi, a great scholar from Indian Institute of Public Administration, (brief bio attached) spoke about the bad impact of privatisation of education, turning institutions into moneymaking centres, class rooms becoming smileless, (coaching centres flourishing as a nexus), widening walls, wealth wise, caste wise. Classrooms and Conference Halls offering no freedom(being militarised), education increasingly commercialised, all had brought in serious deterioration.

Dr . K V Dominic dwelt on how decadence started in families, parents turning wrong role models of greed and moneymaking, how teachers needed real training in teaching, how schools and colleges eschewed the role values and ethics, not incorporating it into the syllabus, how Governments meddled with education for vested interests and propagation of their ideology even at the cost of removing good, inspiring role models from history.

Dr. Bhagyashree Varma highlighted the need of Humanities in the curriculum, like literature, philosophy, social science and politics. She referred to the enslaved condition of present teachers within the tight time schedule of each semester, teachers breathless, not able to talk anything beyond the tight syllabus. The education of the marginalised and subaltern, much overlooked also had to be elevated to the desired level

Dr Lalit Mohan Sharma focussed on Primary Education which was largely neglected, particularly in view of the heavy bags. He quoted from his experience and wanted that young students must be given respite from the heavy physical loads.

The pertinent questions put in from. audience by Rawle Iam James and Shuchi Sharma propelled the discussions further into higher planes of philosophic multilogue.

In her vote of thanks Dr. Molly Joseph characterized the whole panel session as a heart talk since all spoke from experience. She highlighted the onus of IAE to carry its mission forward on to effective practical planes.

The event was anchored and moderated by Dr R. Sheela Banu, whose graceful conduct of the proceedings left its own mark.

The event was hosted by Prof Randhir Gautam.

GHEORGHE LAURA (ROMANIA)

COMMENTS ON THE FINDINGS OF THE PANEL DISCUSSION ON FILMS, MEDIA AND VIOLENCE

Hi! Thank you for the link! I’m listening to the debate right now and I’m impressed that you and the other members discuss about the increasing violence in today’s society through media which is a problem that most people tend to overlook and blame the youths instead.

The debate reminded me of a French researcher’s conclusion about the impact of media on men. He said that ever since the T.V. was invented, violence increased amongst men. A few years ago, I read an article about a series of killings in the U.S.A. in which the killers’ plans were based on a thriller movie called “Party X”. This led me to believe that the media not only brainwashes many to become violent, but it gives ideas on how to commit crimes.

If I have to compare my generation to the so-called alpha generation of today, I say that my generation had a normal childhood, learned many things, know how to manage in different situations and enjoys life while the latter is robbed of its childhood, is brainwashed by the system to take drugs from an early age, believe it is born to be sick, be obedient mindless slaves, zombies and robots, doesn’t have a baggage of knowledge, is mentally and physically unstable etc.

Another side effect of technology is that is making most people lazy and dumb. There are many cases of cyber dementia that consists of people that lost touch with reality and act like schizophrenic bio-robots.

Every time I walk on the street or go shopping, I notice many of the children of today behaving like confused fools that have no idea what’s happening in reality. Many are rude, obnoxious, arrogant and prideful. They don’t respect anyone. They have no shame, no life goals, no future. The grownups that were supposed to teach them important lessons in life, come up with all sorts of lame excuses to avoid responsibility, then they have the nerve to blame the youths for not respecting them, for not living to their expectations and for displaying violent behavior.

WORLD UNIV RANKINGS

Dear Sirs

I am here to make a suggestion in the criteria that is used to assess the universities.

You are using

Sustainability
Employment Outcomes
International Research Network

As the parameters of assessment.

I suggest please add one more parameter which is essential to make the University more relevant to future of mankind. It is
Humanistic Agenda: Promotion of Creative Ideas and Ethics

Dear Sirs,

We at International Academy of Ethics believe that Education which is devoid of ethical training is not only irrelevant, but also dangerous.

What kind of world we are creating for our upcoming generations? Is money the only value left in the world?

If you change the criteria, it will do a whole lot of good to mankind.

COMMENT BY PROF ASHOK KAPOOR, AUTHOR AND ACADEMICIAN

With reference to your blog on poetry as a painkiller , in a lighter vein, I am reminded of D H.Lawrence ‘ s remark that we , the artists, shed our sickness in books with a view to undergoing a cathartic process which is the basic function of all genres of fine arts.
There would have been no great creations of fine arts , had there been no pain in life .Pain is essential to us to bring out the best in us , purging us of the debris of the crude and the coarse in us
Aristotle discusses in his ‘Poetics’ , an illuminating critique of art ,that the function of tragedy is catharsis , a purgation of the emotions of pity and fear by pity and fear .Aristotle was acutely aware of the relevance of pain in life as it is only tragedy , regardless of different genres of literature and art , that has the great strength in restoring our emotional balance.

Thus the portrayals of tragic scenes in great art , work as catalysts n evoking an emotional process , in widening our sympathies and sensibilities to understand the overwhelming dilemmas of life .The tragic predicament is the common fate of humanity , reeling under travails and tribulations , the outrageous arrows and slings of outrageous misfortune. There can be no outlet unless we read great classics , unravelling the layers of our tragic life .
It is great classics that acquaint us with the amplitude of our tragic predicament, unveiling the great possibilities of our evolution in our emotional turbulence .
Pain is indispensable to our inner flowering and growth. I regard great works of art as an inner emotional bath , cleansing us of inner refuse and debris , blocking the spontaneous development of our personalities. It is a different matter that we try to avoid pain and pursue crude pleasue to while away our time We rush to all means of entertainment to escape pain in life .Comedies may paint a bright , sunny view of life , ringing with fun and laughter , amusement and diversion but in spirit , the core of comedy is also born out pain.
There goes an interesting story of a comedian ; once a depressed person goes to consult a psycho analyst to get treatment for his bouts of melancholy . The analyst advises him to watch the laughter shows of a particular comedian in the town . He mentions his name but ironically speaking , the patient stuns the analyst by saying that he is that particular comedian himself , holding his laughter shows in the town .
How long can we avoid pain at the cost of our emotional equilibrium and equipoise ? Sooner or later we must prepare ourselves to tread upon the embers of live charcoal to understand the basic meaning of life , hid in our suppressed self actualization.

PARENTING IN INVERTED TIMES
by DR JERNAIL SINGH ANAND

The Reversal of Value System
“We are passing through times which have been challenged by comparative para-sensibilities of the emerging world of
power, wealth and crime. The trio has pushed the world into a situation in which the ‘real’ men who matter in this society,
are not the ‘men of character’ but the men of power and means, which in other words, can be read as ‘characterless’.
It is a strange reversal and a shocking revelation that we are living in inverted times”

GREAT POET FROM GERMANY

BISSO NATALIE WRITES ON ETHICS

Ethics is a special area of philosophical knowledge that distinguishes a group of mental qualities of a person, called “moral virtues, this is the unity of moral consciousness, moral activity and moral relations. Universal ethics is a set of principles and norms of behavior that are mandatory for all people, regardless of their social functions and professional affiliation. Ethical norms are values and rules of ethics that all people should adhere to. They act as a regulator of human relations. Ethics of relations is a system of knowledge that includes the moral norms of society; norms and rules of behavior; principles of communication: patterns of interpersonal relations; style; culture; relationships; etiquette.

A person receives and masters ethical knowledge from early childhood, maintaining with their help the necessary level of harmony and order in society. It is unethical, ugly to scold, litter, cheat, steal, envy, offend the weak, betray friends.

Ethics not only reflects real morality, but also sets the value basis of human life, determining what it should be aimed at, therefore ethics must be studied not only in order to know morality, but also in order to become moral.

Unfortunately, ethics in the world has become increasingly problematic lately. Elementary rules of ethics are violated. It has become unfashionable to observe the rules of good form. Due to violations and a decrease in the level of ethics in the world, there is a decline in virtue, compassion, morality, and spiritual qualities.

It seems to me that ethics today rests solely on the shoulders of writers. And I personally try to always adhere to ethics and promote it with my behavior, my works, my actions and relationships both in life and on the Internet.

Thank you for inviting me to become a member of this eminent institution such as the International Academy of Ethics. I am honoured to participate in the work and advancement of social activity for the common good of the world. (Please, don’t give me any tasks for the time being, I’ll take part in the discussions. I wish you all luck and success in your work. My congratulations to the originator of the IAE, Dr. Jernail S. Anand.
You can find my biography in the attachment of this mail for the purpose of my membership.

On ethics, I feel that it is exactly the right moment now for such a thing since a new history of the world is being written. We live in the 21st century and the world is at a crossroads, it’s changing. It has already been different today than it was 30 years ago. The old systems and order of living, as well as lifestyles, are being destroyed. An open war is being waged against the people of this planet; extremely rich people have made a new movement, that is transhumanism – and it takes effect via technology, propaganda, and spreading misinformation of corrupted media which sow threats and fear. Fear is the strongest emotion affecting human beings. The world is falling into a trap not noticing that it is getting changed gradually in this ”huge reset.”

We pay and get paid using electronic cards more and more often, not banknotes from our wallets, citizens are being directed to go to big corporate shopping malls or trading houses (paying is performed by cards and not money) – that’s how everything is controlled by hidden forces – Huge or Deep State – Mega Cabal, leading billionaires, who we neither see nor know ever. We are going to order everything we need online by phone and a supplier will bring it to our home. All is there to make us ”live better lives”…and so we are slowly becoming obedient slaves, walking robots of programmed neural networks.

Artificial Intelligence – AI is already in our homes: remote controls, smartphones, various household devices, strong computers, and in 5-star hotel rooms, keys are replaced by electrical cards which switch on the lights, TV sets, etc. We don’t have to be afraid of artificial intelligence, but we must develop our natural intelligence so that we can manage AI.That is why we need new rules of Ethics which shall be a new means of help in a new way of life and behaviour; I’ve already been writing about that for a long time.
Best regards,
Slava Božičević

THÉ DILEMMA OF HUMAN COMMUNICATION AND THE LANGUAGE OF GODS

https://www.polismagazino.gr/dr-jernail-singh-anand-the-dilemma-
of-human-communication-and-the-language-of-gods/#

DR TAMALI NEOGI
comments on this article very exhaustively:

I humbly wish to know does every religious philosophy support this view of ‘Karma’? By Hindus it is considered as God’s silent replies to one’s overdoings. I think, every religion tries to decode God’s language of silence in varied ways.

I am reminded of seers like Tiresius who was was able to understand birds’ language and could foretell one’s future by reading the silently dying ambers. Is it so that God’s language can only be understood by prophets like Tiresius or wise men like our great liberators? I believe it is all about understanding the inner reality of things ( close to God’s silent message- “soul to soul network”) for perceiving what one needs highest level of emotive and intuitive intelligence. Hence insightful poet, scientist, philosopher, religious leader and even visionary political leader stand on the same platform so far as understanding God’s language is considered.

The poet’s plea to realize the language of silence gains special significance in an era of authoritarian and sectarian politics enforcing mass silence. “Maun Vrat” reminds me of Gandhiji who has used it as language of silence to mobilize the nation as well as to purify his inner self ( getting a chance to communicate to Him in silence).

I admit that creatures of Nature are in certain cases far ahead of human beings in presupposing , analyzing natural happenings which we do only by the support of artificial intelligence. Is it because of the fact that their brains are not so well developed as humankind? Their “creative intelligence” brings them close to the intuitive intelligence of best of our lot. Am not sure if too much of brain power( too much of accumulated knowledge) damages/ lessens one’s ability of intuitive understanding that brings mankind close to the “creative intelligence “of other natural creatures or not?Is it time for us to consider “artificial intelligence “, “acquired intelligence “as one of the causes of what has put us as mentally retarded race?

It soothes my soul when I see a sensitive poet’s thoughtfulness at failure of communication all around. How many of us have raised voice against Ukraine-Russia war?

MARIJA NAJTHEFER POPOV

A POEM

WAR

Me in that minefield
deleted space
Every hour it rained death
From the sky
On innocent people
Children who die innocent
I know what it’s like to be hated
And it’s not your fault
when that smell of death is all around you
Drops of death fall from the sky
To a life that has no alternative
Stop!!!
Enough is enough!!!
I screamed too
Under the sky of death
And there is no Sun anywhere
And no laughter anywhere
Everything smells like death
All is darkness!
War ?
Oh my God
Stop everything called
That ominous name.

THE ETHICAL UNIVERSE

What moves in reverse
Perhaps
Is what is Ethical.

If we ask you not to be rash,
And if we ask you
To look within

Why within? You will ask.
And dismiss all
Such suggestions.

We will ask you
Do what you want to do.
It is fine with you

But if we ask you
Please consult your heart, your conscience,
You will say, a big Nooooo.

Ethics is no science,
No scripture
It is no religious discipline

It is simply asking yourself
Before doing anything
Is my heart in it?

If your conscience supports you
Be sure, you are
On the side of the Right

Wrong is committed with divided minds.
Your conscience will never support you
If your action is amiss

Perhaps you are in search of Happiness.
And you love Peace too.
Both lie Within.

Every moment, the judiciary is at work.
You need to listen to
The Voices which we try to silence…….
